What is arthritis in the hand and wrist?

Finger and wrist joints can wear out in the same way as hip or a knee joints due to years of use.  

Arthritic joints can be very painful and stop you from doing everyday tasks. It is most common in the middle joint of the finger, the top joint of the finger, or base of your thumb.

What are the symptoms of arthritis in the hand and wrist?
  • Stiff, painful and swollen fingers
  • Bumps on your fingers
  • Pain comes and goes
  • Bent fingers

How is arthritis in the hand and wrist diagnosed?

A simple x-ray should be sufficient, however if the picture isn’t clear sometimes ultrasound or MRI may be required.
