What are the symptoms of arthritis of the thumb?

  • Swelling, stiffness and tenderness at the base of your thumb
  • Decreased strength when pinching or grasping objects
  • Decreased range of motion
  • Enlarged or bony appearance of the joint at the base of your thumb

How is arthritis of the thumb diagnosed?

A simple x-ray should be sufficient, however if the picture isn’t clear sometimes ultrasound or MRI may be required.
