Finger joint replacement surgery is a procedure in which the damaged joint is removed and replaced with a prosthetic implant.
This type of surgery helps to improve the range of motion and reduce pain in the joint.

What is the recovery like after finger and thumb joint replacement surgery?
The hand and wrist is usually protected immediately by a cast but after wound check the joint is usually encouraged to move.
At this stage the hand is protected in a thermoplastic splint supplied by the hand therapist.
The therapist supervises regain in motion and strength of the joint.
Joint replacement is usually followed up with radiographs (x-ray) and clinical examination for up to a year and perhaps longer, depending on which joint is replaced.
After the surgery, physical therapy is used to help the patient regain strength, range of motion, and function of the thumb.
Recovery time varies depending on the individual and the severity of the condition.
