What is tennis elbow?

Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, is an overuse injury that occurs when the tendons of the elbow become inflamed from repetitive motions.

It is a common condition among sports players due to overuse or trauma of the arm.

What are the symptoms of tennis elbow?

  • Pain on the outside of the elbow
  • Difficulty lifting objects
  • Difficulty twisting objects
  • Trouble extending your fingers

How is tennis elbow diagnosed?

Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, is typically diagnosed through a physical exam. During the exam, your elbow consultant will check for tenderness in the affected area and evaluate the patient’s range of motion.

Imaging tests such as X-rays or MRIs may also be used to rule out other potential causes of the patient’s pain.

In some cases, an ultrasound may be used to check for inflammation and tendon damage.
